Hello there! I'm E.E. Lawrence, an assistant professor in the Department of Library & Information Science in the School of Communication & Information (SC&I) at Rutgers University. A librarian by training, I conduct normative research on issues related to library & information ethics, readers/reading, and aesthetics (especially as it pertains to algorithmic culture and leisure-time recommendation practices).
Some of my ongoing projects include…
…a conceptual analysis of the term diverse books.
…a critical inventory of the ways in which popular recommender systems abridge users’ aesthetic autonomy.
…an interrogation of professional stereotype reaffirmation and resistance in popular romance novels authored by librarians.
All of my work concerns itself in one way or another with the overarching political project of the public library.
My pronouns are they/them or he/him.
